This painting depicts a pair of bright pink spiked legs in purple combat boots, in front of a yellow and black background. The heavy contrast between the neon colours and black are utilized to give this piece an attention-grabbing, unapologetic attitude.

I don't remember when exactly I learned that my body hair was shameful; it was just what I always knew. I must've been around twelve when I first asked my mom to buy a razor. One of those things from TV, that's dragged across a woman's already-bare leg to make her more beautiful. Boys from grade-school joked about French women not shaving their underarms (backed by a chorus of "eeew!"), and as they grew, they continued to assert their opinions about women's bodies, as if they were cakes on a tray. I am tired of being on display.

Learning to live in my own body, and to take up space, has been an incredibly rewarding journey. I hope this piece can inspire another to do the same.
