After a magical afternoon as part of a yoga retreat, spent in Spring-head Gardens, Fontmell Magna, Dorset this image came to me. The sun blazed down whilst the cob swam and glided on the lake; on the island in the middle of the lake its mate, the pen, sat serenely on her nest. The weeping willow sank low over the water, glinting in the sunshine.Then the door-way in the wall opened and the wonderful Lady of the House came to offer us tea. The whole image was like a fairy tale: so that is how I painted it. I added the symbolic bridge on which the Everywoman figure is standing. Has she just arrived ……or is she returning? Is she calling to the swans? Or have they called her…….?
