We saw this scene near Faro, Portugal, close to the Salt Pan Lakes. Depicting the flamboyant beauty of the flamingo as it waits patiently on one leg, It has spotted a fish, and just …..waits. Then, like a rainbow arc, with the white, flaming-red and tickled-pink colours of his plumage dancing against the silver and blue-grey ocean, the neck swoops down. I was captivated by its grace; even more so when I later learnt that the flamingo symbolises the releasing of pent-up emotions, of letting go, of just enjoying the sheer beauty of the moment....I used lace and tissue paper collaged into the wings and the ocean to try to capture this sense of joy.
