This is Barbel’s dog, Daisy. I had promised Barbel to paint a portrait of her dog. I kept her dog in mind but during the intervening years, the original dog died. Actually, I didn’t want to paint her dog; it was not something I wanted to do at the time. However, I had made up my mind to do it the current year with her new dog… I had intended this painting as a Christmas gift but I missed that deadline and felt somewhat guilty about it, so I quickly finished it. Barbel was pleased… I kept the composition fairly simple: neutral backgroud, neutral yellows and greens and highlighting the fur of the dog, giving accents to the face. I gave almost all the attention on the dog. He sits in the middle of the picture plane, lots of details on the fur and face, soft and rounded forms.
