The grace and elegance of the Balinese dance from Indonesia is a wonderful subject, with the bright colours and refined movements which it possesses. The background is plain to enhance the intensity of the colours, as this woman performs the familiar hand actions of the dance called the 'Legong'. I spent many years in Indonesia and this was one of my favourite subjects to paint. It is painted on fine quality canvas with water-based oils.
