This painting layers watercolor paint, oil paint, encaustic wax, and soot to depict a tree and yard light the night after the first snow. The rich blacks are created with soot that was gathered from a wood stove, the highlights from oil paint, and the blue hue of the snow from watercolor paints. All of these materials are held together with clear wax which allowed the entire piece to be further manipulated with a heat gun.
