The Safari Park in Escondido, California, has an expansive Gorilla Habitat. This Teenage Silverback Gorilla is among the residents at Safari Park. Despite their reputation, gorillas are peaceful creatures. They are social, expressive, thoughtful, and intelligent. They are the largest of all primates, animals that include monkeys, lemurs, orangutans, chimpanzees, and humans. Gorillas are on the Endangered Species List.

Gorillas have no natural enemies or predators, yet these great apes are at critical risk because of humans. The rampant destruction of fragile forest habitats is one of the greatest threats to gorilla survival.
