Pete French was one of the first ranchers to settle in Frenchglen, Oregon, which was named in honor of him and his father-in-law and employer, Glenn. Pete’s old wagon, preserved by the dry desert air, was still sitting in the Frenchglen area when Ina first visited the area in the 1950s. Ina took a photo of the wagon’s remains, and used it to paint "Silent Ride." A willow stick corral is seen in the background.
