Color print of an original oil painting by Ina Pruitt, Oregon Artist, who lived from 1905 to 1991. Curtis Luckey, the owner of Luckey’s Woodsman restaurant in Springfield had noticed Ina’s artistic ability, and asked her to paint a mural for his restaurant. She demurred, as she had not worked much with oils, and he wanted a large work to attract attention. The $200 he offered was too tempting to pass up. He described a scene he had once seen near Springfield, though she never saw the scene herself. She painted on a Masonite board, rather than on a canvas, as that was his preference. She spent three months painting it. It had to be just right.
