Why are Nuns so Scary?

That's the question that popped into my head when this piece began to wander down the many paths of my imagination. I remember that I'd just finished watching, yep you guessed it, The Nun (which was actually a disappointment after watching the second Conjuring movie) and as I sat there, disappointed by the movie, I asked myself that above question.

The answer I came up with is that perhaps they are seen as being scary because they're rarely seen or heard. Wandering the silent halls of the ministry (or wherever a Nun resides... pits of hell?) and we hardly ever encounter a nun while out doing the food shop, do we?
