Mayans used to believe that Imix lived in the underworld of the ocean, carrying the world on his back, which gave humanity a firm connection to the Earth. We see a close-up of the alligator's skin, where shapes start to form and emerge and become something else before solidifying. The intention here is precisely to make reference to a "state between states" or plasma, in which everything is possible. This can also be found in the alchemic principle of "solve et coagula" (dissolve and condense). This ever changing figure seems to breathe as it keeps evolving.
