I've been into photography since I was a child and really got my start when I was about nine. Shortly after I entered high school, I realized that my favorites things to play with in photography were lighting and angles rather than filters and props.
More recently, I realized that gemstones make the perfect subject in order to play with lighting and angles and as a gemology student, I have connections and easy access.
For this shot, I went outside in the sunlight, my preferred lighting for shooting gemstones, &placed the gems on a white piece of posterboard as a backdrop, changing the angle of the gem to the sun to get interesting refractions.
This image is a 4x6 on an 8x10 back-needs 8x10 frame.
I got a bunch of these little prints intending to put them in an album to have on hand at shows to display other shots I might not have on hand, but I got a photo book voucher for Christmas and now these little prints serve no use to me, but they are still great pictures.
