Competing Rascals is an Onaism/realistic acrylic on canvas story/depiction of seven young rascals in the nude by the river, blasting away urines upward into the air; to know whose urine could go higher than the others, thereby becoming the winner. The ground, trees and sky have faces… Hence, the ground, trees, sky, river, and the toad are God’s appointed umpires. Youthful exuberance coupled with reminiscence of some of the plays that we engaged in as boys, just for the fun of being alive and hearty were recalled in the work. The traditional motifs and forms in the painting are simply to emphasize the African aesthetics in the story with touches of symbolism and realism.
