The combination of colors caused me to catch my breath when I first came across this scene. Although a great fan of en plein air traditions and painters, such as
Monet, Renoir, Winslow Homer or Robert Clunie, I work so slowly I almost never
finish the scene at one sitting. To try to capture a sunrise or sunset that way is impossible, so out comes the camera and the image is captured in stone, so to speak. The scene may go through some changes over a period of 20 to 30 minutes, which means the studio rendition, an oil on canvas, may be a composite,
a better hue of red or yellow in one, a better blue or yellow in another. The clouds can vary over time, also.
