This bay on Rough Rock Lake in Ontario, Canada was named by my mentor, Steve Clark. He was canoeing back in the bay when he came across a dead moose floating in the swamp. Not only was he a wonderful painter, he also had a great way with words. The exposed pink granite and the electric moss makes this landscape irresistible to an artist. Everywhere you look, there is a potential painting. There is very little soil on the Canadian Shield, so life takes hold where ever it can. Trees grow out of cracks in the rock and moss grows on rotting piles of jack pine needles. What makes it even more amazing is that this harsh landscape is frozen most of the year.
