Mount Shasta is a potentially active volcano at the southern end of the Cascade Range in Siskiyou County, California. At an elevation of 14,179 feet, it is the second-highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth-highest in the state. It's a resting sanctuary for birds and butterflies on their migratory route north or south. Mt Shasta is also where this magnificent Western Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly finds refuge on a small plant at The Grand View Ranch. The Yellow Tiger swallowtail butterfly is a symbol of transformation, inspiring one to seek out new experiences that bring happiness to all that get a glimpse of this beautiful insect.
At times Shasta is covered with clouds made up of millions of butterflies hundreds of verities of butterflies swarming, only to make a short stop here and their journey south.
