February 29, 2020, my 48-year-old daughter passed away after a 12 plus year battle with Breast Cancer. She was the bravest person I have ever known. I am bereft. I started this painting showing the roiling, stormy sea that was inside me. I knew it needed something and tried an island...different clouds...many boats, all of which didn't work. So, I pondered what I was really trying to say. It came to me that the painting wasn't really about me. It was about my daughter.
The albatross is a seafarer spending most of it time over open ocean. It's ten-foot wingspan helps it use the air currents to soar. I recalled a beautiful song called,' Wings to Fly' and incorporated the Black Browed Albatross into the painting soaring above the stormy seas and flying into clearing skies and hope. It should touch your heart if you have lost someone dear.
It is 24 x 36 x 1 inches and was framed for an exhibition. It is beautiful.
