This mandala was inspired by ancient and recent Egyptian motifs (sparkling gold, papyrus buds, achingly gorgeous lapis lazuli blue, and Islamic art decagons.)
Nightlight composition is the product of doped strontium aluminate mixed into my own recipe paints. The photoluminescent pigments are waterproof and OSHA-rated toy-safe. The minerals are excited (charged) by any visible light- both sunlight and artificial light: no special bulbs needed.
The painting will charge in 10 minutes but glows longer & brighter with an hour of light. The green starts out with luminance of 93,000 mcd/m2. The blue starts at 950 mcd/m2. Painting will glow between 8 and 20 hours.
Canvas is 5 x 5 feet, 15 oz., double gessoed, acid free, hemmed on all sides so it need not be stretched over a frame. Includes heavy-duty steel rings that clip to top for hanging, or it might be tacked to wall. Rolls up for easy transport.
