Rebekah, went childless for the first 20 years of her marriage. Finally after Isaac importuned the Lord for her, she conceived (Gen. 25:21). As the pregnancy progressed Rebekah was distressed, apparently from the mega-movement going on in her womb. It was so overwhelming, and not having the option of an ultrasound in those days, she decided to seek revelation from the Lord, her Obstetrician. Notice first, that Rebekah sought for and received revelation for her problem. The Lord reveals to her that she is having twins! And that the younger would be the birthright son, which wasn’t customary. That information would play an important part in Israel’s history. Second, Rebekah said as she importuned the Lord. “Why am I thus?” Rebekah’s discomfort came because God was working through her to bring to pass His will regarding many future generations. For us the principle is the same, not all that we go through is “just about us.”
