This image started as a photograph of a palm tree with vines and flowers growing up along its trunk. I then used digital filters to alter the image and then digitally painted freehand using the pixels of the photographic images as paint. The title refers to the concept in Integral Theory of "growing up" vs. "waking up". Growing up refers to evolving through the various stages of human development, while waking up refers to advances in one's capacity to achieve higher states of consciousness (like through meditation).
