The aim was to show life's emotional and spiritual journey. The beast is prominent in each piece.
We are born with "mistakes" and as sinful beings represented by darkness, but the light still penetrates through. Through our bones (this appears white on the x-rays); we see the exact symbol of light. Light also symbolizes God, thus we are filled with God.
