Popping up like dandelions approximately every other street along the Miami South Beach shore, one finds an array of brightly colored lifeguard towers, each with a very unique art deco design and its own piece of history.

These structures, which have now become a symbol of Miami beach, represent the rebirth of the city: not long after Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992 the architect William Lane designed and donated the first ones. Many more followed and they often have to be replaced, some are a result of design competitions, and some commissioned by local entrepreneurs.

In this collection I showcase each hut standing on its own, in contrast to the sand, sea and sky, devoid of beachgoers and almost any other distraction - making it an almost impossible Miami sight - to bring forth their beauty and fragility, as they all stand unguarded from the elements.
