Located in central Massachusetts, the photographer is an amateur enthusiast of the night sky. Many images were captured using an 8" Edge HD telescope and CGEM tracking mount from Celestron using a Canon D6 DSLR affixed where the eyepiece would normally be. Long exposures (2-5 minutes) are often required for astrophotography in order to capture enough photons to show the faint details and color of deep sky objects like nebula galaxies and comets.

Series of many exposures are overlaid on each other using a software tool like Registax which aligns each bright point in the individual images with the corresponding one in the rest of the stack. This helps improve signal to noise ratio, allowing the finer details to stand out over the background static, and compensates somewhat for atmospheric distortion that warp the target, thereby reducing the blur that would otherwise be more prominent.
