Hello and thank you for viewing my artwork.
I have recently embarked upon a full-time art career after working as a Registered Nurse for over 30 yrs. Most of those 30 yrs was working with the elderly and I loved every minute of my time with my patients/residents. Even though I loved this work, I always longed for my paintbrush, pencil, charcoal or clay.. For a while, I juggled both; however, I am now able to focus on my art full-time. I feel so excited that I can create AND share art with others, it gIves me butterflies (good butterflies)! Even more exciting is that with the Internet, I am not only able to share my art locally, I can now share my art with the whole world. This is mind-blowing for someone who grew up with a rotary dial phone!
I have always gravitated toward the Realism style of painting, which is challenging. When creating the beauty that I see in everyday life, I feel that no detail is unimportant. It's the sum of all the little details that as an artist, is my resposibilty to put them all together to create a beautiful piece of art. No matter what an artist creates, it is very personal. I feel every detail is as imporant as the next. Sort of like a family or community.... each & every person is as important as the next. My art is wonderful because of each & every little detail. A family is a beautiful and wonderous thing because of each & every person together, creating a larger more wonderous thing. One of the great things about sharing art is that I feel I am sharing a piece of me with every creation. 10 artists can come together & paint the same subject matter, yet each piece will be completely different from each other, but equally beautiful & wonderous.
I am mostly a self-taught artist; however, I did take some art classes with some local artists to learn the basics. Lori MacDonald an excellent local acrylic artist in the Gardner, MA area, offers acrylic art lessons. She is a talented teacher & artist. Another local artist, Gary Ruuska, also from the Gardner area, offered colored pencil classes in the past. I took a few classes with Lori in acrylics & I was gifted a colored pencil class with Gary Ruuska from my hubby. I have also been reading books, watching videos online, and I became a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America in order to learn & grow as a colored pencil artist.
I have so much to learn & I feel that I am up to the task. I think that's another reason that I feel I am a good artist is that yearning for knowledge, married with desire to take the limitless colors of a pallette, gather all the tiny details, and place them on a surface in a way that puts a smile on a person's face. That's art to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me & my art journey. I hope that my art will bring wonder and a smile to those who view it.
