“In the middle of our walk of life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost.”
Dante, The Divine Comedy

In my work, I’m trying to keep the values of abstract expressionism alive; tragic and timeless existence reflected in large scale abstract work, only understood by the discerning eye. Always starting with a blank canvas, not knowing how it is going to end and looking to produce something that expresses a certain feeling or tells a specific story..

In psychology they say ‘all art is self-portraiture’ which I find to be very true in the case of abstract expressionism and what I do in the studio.. only that the subject of portrayal is the emotional and/or the subconscious self as opposed to the physical!

I don’t decide on what the painting is going to look like, I let it be. I intend the process of creation to be spontaneous & intuitive. On many occasions it is after creating the painting that I become aware of what the ‘mood’ of the painting is and how it reflected my inner anxieties or joys. I hope people would come away from seeing my work feeling more at ease with themselves and the world around them… ultimately feeling more sensitive and vulnerable… more human!
