My name is Mike Unrue and I live in Daytona Beach, Florida. Although I graduated from UIC in 2001 with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Graphic Design degree, I started drawing about the same time I learned to walk and never stopped. Growing up, I mainly drew from photographs trying to recreate what I saw as exact as possible. I was always a huge rock/metal fan and loved the album artwork. So, I often tried to recreate the cover illustration, or draw portraits based upon images of the musicians. Living in Florida later in life, I also became greatly influenced by it's stunningly beautiful nature. Surfing became another love of mine. The time spent in the water expanded my outdoor appreciation. I became mesmerized with the ocean waves, analyzing the patterns, forms, and shapes within them. Over nine years ago, I began actively selling in Florida art festivals and have won numerous awards since. Many commissions, including portraits have also been completed. Often, customers refer to my colored and graphite pencil work as abstract , surreal, or psychedelic. I agree with most of the comments and believe my style is visually, a combined interpretation of the music and aquatic nature I love.
