Selected three times for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition
I started painting when I was at school. The artists who inspired me the most were Van Gogh, Gaugin and Matisse. For me, painting is about colour and energy. Later I discovered the abstract expressionists ( particularly Pollock, Hofmann, de Kooning, Rothko and Rauschenberg )and studied them under the tutelage of John Elderfield and Lawrence Gowing at Leeds University.

Since then I have made a progressive journey from representational painting to my work now which is purely abstract. The main aim in my present work is to explore the full force of colour without relying on representational support. I would like to think that my work accesses a different reality, involving hidden memories, mystery and emotion. I believe in the collective unconscious as the source of artistic expression. The collective unconscious is the force which brings the unknown into presence and this is what I wish to convey in my painting through the relationship between colour and space.
