I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Upon graduating from the University of Utah in Business Management, I worked as computer network consultant when computers were big and bulky and awkward. During one of my consulting jobs, I met and married my wonderful husband of 22 years. When we had our first son, I decided to quit my computer job to stay home. By the time we had our second son, I realized I needed a creative outlet.
Even though I started my art career using watercolor in the early 90's, I didn't take it too far. In 2001 while at home with our two small children, I wanted to learn how to make jewelry so I set my paint brushes aside and learned all I could about metal smithing, lost wax casting, setting stones and enameling by apprenticing under a fine jeweler. Around 2009, I was introduced to mixed media and learned to paint faces. I tend to divide my time equally between painting and making jewelry. I love symbolism and stories so I incorporate a little of both in every piece I create. I love the idea of my work being meaningful and singing directly to the recipient.
For a period of time when I wasn't painting or making jewelry I was a runner. Once I stopped running, I turned to yoga. I loved it so much that I became a certified yoga instructor. After teaching for a few years, I decided to spend more time focused on my art and simply be a student of yoga. Now, when I'm not painting or making jewelry I spend time hiking, walking, and going to yoga.
