John Churchill (b. 1972) is an American self-taught visual artist and experimental musician who describes himself as an "intentionally outsider artist".

Born and raised in the northeast, he grew up in a creative household, as his father was a traditional oil painter of western themes. A child art prodigy, in his teens he abandoned his brushes in favor of music. Only recently has he returned to his first love of visual creative expression.

His paintings and digital artworks present striking colors and forms, often layering multiple subjects upon each other in a technique he has dubbed "abstract superimposition". His art eschews typical standards of beauty in favor of a raw and urgent approach.

“I don't want to lull viewers into a catatonic state with serene landscapes that matches their living room. I want my art to agitate the viewer on a sub-conscious level. The best compliment I have ever received about my work is that it makes them uncomfortable.”

John has injected his artistic philosophy into the realms of experimental music and film as well. Sounds and visuals dance around and weave into one another to the point of becoming unrecognizable in their more-conventional forms.

He names Pablo Picasso, Jean Michel Basquiat, and Don Van Vliet as his greatest influences.

John Churchill currently resides in Charleston, South Carolina.
