I have only recently started painting and creating collage. I wish I had found it sooner, but am happy with my progress thus far. My first attempt at art was 30 street installations with varying exposure and success. This was immensely fulfilling. I was captivated and addicted to creating something and not caring what anyone thought of it, just overjoyed that I was making it my way just for me. My art has taught me a lot about myself, mostly things I knew but was afraid to embrace. My true self rejects detail, technique, accuracy, and order in almost all aspects of life. This is why I incorporate bold color with fat paint strokes, experimentally blend, utilize spray paint, embrace aggressive and emotional splats, and never consider anything a "mistake". My collage abide by similar techniques. I try to find beauty that is over looked in every day life and piece these unrelated images together into a bold meaningful statement. Art to me is about the process first, then the finished product second. If you are yourself, are doing what feels right, and are not afraid then you can create something beautiful. And if it is not beautiful to most people then at least it is beautiful to you, and nothing can take that away. Never compare yourself to anyone, just do the art that makes you happy.
