Julie Sheppard Artist

New Zealand artist.

I've always loved to express myself through creation including art, digital art, sewing, makeup, sculpture, and encouraging others in art. I have spent the last two and a half years facilitating an art group at the psychiatric hospital where I work part time as a Registered Nurse. During this time I sit and draw with the patients and really enjoy the collaboration and conversations that happen at the art table. I love to participate in my son's art classes at school and the teachers and children and I have a great time.

It wasn't until five years ago that I took up drawing again after leaving it behind me for other creative endeavours. During that time I have undertaken a journey of understanding principles of mindfulness, which I use in my life, as a parent, in my work as a psychiatric nurse, and as an artist. To me it is about accepting whatever is there, and getting on with it. There are tough times and good times. Nothing is permanent, everything is temporary and when we can be in the moment and let things happen we can find stability within ourselves. Sometimes my art is meaningful and serious and other times it is quirky and light hearted, just like me. I hope my art finds some resonance within you, connecting us in this creative endeavour as you contribute yourself to the meaning and interpretation of it.

I'm showing my work in a gallery called Expoz'Art in Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand. Come and join the journey with me.
